NZ Nationals And World Cup To Be Staged Together

Wellington, NZ. 25th April.
The World Cup will be run in conjunction with the New Zealand Indoor Cricket Club Nationals It is the first time the World cup has been held concurrent with a host country's National Championships.

"It will help with lifting the profile of the sport, and also help sell out the finals days" said Mark Cini, New Zealand Indoor Cricket Executive Officer and World Indoor Cricket President. "Last year this event had 50 teams entered, so if the same numbers enter this year, it will be a fantastic event with very large crowds".

The Club Nationals will commence on the Thursday which is a rest day for the World Cup Teams.

Other tournament news for New Zealand:

  • South Island Championships in Christchurch June 14--16
  • North Island Championships in Auckland June 21--23

After this the regional teams are selected for the Tri Series, from which the World Cup Teams will be selected. The Tri Series is to be held in Christchurch July 19th to 21st
