The Indian Women took on New Zealand today. It should be noted that the Indian team are very young (the eldest is 18), and very inexperienced. They approach the game with enthusiasm, but more importantly appear very keen to learn from the highly skilled teams around them.

It was particularly pleasing to see some local girls, plus the New Zealand coaching staff, taking the Indian girls through some skill-drills before the game, and explaining some of the finer points of the game. Just another example of the sort of thing I'm seeing so often over here--extremely helpful people, generous of their time, and making an enormous contribution to our sport's development. We commend the New Zealanders highly for the assistance and friendliness they showed the Indian girls.

As for the game, New Zealand gave the Indian girls as many examples of the different aspects of the game as anyone could want. They batted, bowled and fielded well, posting a massive score. A small but very vocal crowd (locals supporting and encouraging the Indians) found any excuse to cheer the visitors, and nearly raised the roof when Natasha Williams was bowled by Nancy. They did the same 3 overs later when Annu had Helen Watson caught.

Despite the scores, both teams appeared to enjoy the game, and the conclusion of it was as commendable as the beginning--the New Zealand team and officials invited all the Indian girls into their huddle, then posed for photos as a group.

Congratulations to both sides, particularly the New Zealand Women, for a game that, despite the scoreline, was entertaining and a pleasure to watch. And congrats again to the New Zealanders for the hospitality and assistance they extended to their Indian guests.
