New Zealand are under pressure in this game, their first pair restricted to 9 runs by some excellent bowling and fielding by the ever-improving Sri Lankans

New Zealand's second pair have just staged a strong comeback, posting 40 runs for a team total at the half-way mark of 49

New Zealand's third pair posted a hard-fought 22. New Zealand 71 after 12 overs

New Zealand's fourth pair posted 23. As with all the NZ batsmen, they were subjected to some fine bowling and exceptional fielding in the front half. A couple of close calls went against SL late in this partnership, plus a fumble at the bowler's end when both batsmen were stranded mid-pitch. Considering their start, NZ could be relieved that they ultimately posted a reasonable score.

Sri Lanka are about to start their chase. Next report after the first partnership.

Sri Lanka's first pair posted a solid 23. Important that the second pair consolidate to wipe away the effect of NZ's great second pair.

After being under immense pressure, down to -9 at one stage, SL's second pair recovered to post 19 runs. SL at 42 after 8 overs. A bit behind the required rate, which increases the importance of the next pair. It is imperative they get well over 20 runs to assist the final pair.

New Zealand effectively won the game in the Sri Lankan third partnership with some spirited fielding and containing bowling. An LBW decision against Sri Lanka (we think the first of the tournament) and a runout both in the 14th over left the last Sri Lankan pair with 47 to get from the remaining two overs. Despite a 7 in the 15th and another in the 16th, it was never going to happen and New Zealand ran out comfortable winners.
